10. Community Chat — What We Collect
Our website includes an optional Community Chat feature that lets visitors discuss the plugin in real time. Use of the chat is voluntary — you can browse the rest of the website without ever opening it. The data we process specifically for the chat is described below.
Chat Information We Collect
- Self-chosen nickname: a pseudonym you pick on first use (no real name or email is required to chat)
- Messages you send: the text content you submit to a public channel
- Channel and timestamp: which channel the message belongs to and when it was sent
- Typing status: a short-lived flag indicating you are currently typing (visible to other chat users)
Technical Data for Abuse Prevention
- IP address: recorded with each message and in rate-limit logs to prevent flooding, spam and abuse
- Last-activity timestamps: used to expire stale typing indicators and inactive moderator sessions
Legal Basis (GDPR Art. 6)
Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): preventing abuse, spam and illegal content, and maintaining a safe public community. The IP address is processed solely for security and moderation — it is never used for advertising or profiling.
Moderation
To keep the community safe, every message is held in a moderation queue and is not visible to other users until a chat owner approves it. Owners may also reject messages, remove individual messages, or mass-delete all messages from a specific nickname when dealing with abuse.
Retention — How Long We Keep Chat Data
- Approved messages: kept indefinitely as a public community archive, unless you ask us to delete yours
- Rejected or deleted messages: removed permanently as soon as a moderator acts on them
- Rate-limit logs (IP): automatically purged after a short rolling window (one minute)
- Typing-status records: automatically removed after a few seconds of inactivity
- Moderator sessions: auto-expire after 30 days of inactivity
Your Rights in the Chat
- You may participate using a pseudonym — we do not require your real name or email to chat
- You may request deletion of your past chat messages by emailing contact@wp-automatic-plugin.com with the nickname you used
- You may stop using the chat at any time without affecting any other rights you have under this Policy
- All other GDPR rights listed in Section 8 apply equally to chat data
